The EUTOPIA alliance, an university renewed on a European scale
EUTOPIA is an ambitious alliance of six like-minded European universities: Vrije Universitat Brussels (Belgium), CY Cergy Paris University (France), University of Gothenburg (Sweden), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), University of Pompeu Fabra (Spain) and University of Warwick (United Kingdom).
Students, researchers and staff of the EUTOPIA Alliance are working together to build a new academic model, reflecting an open and united Europe, respectful of citizens and the environment.
EUTOPIA's mission is to build in the long term a unique and daring alliance of transformative and committed institutions. In June 2019, EUTOPIA was chosen as one of the 17 winning projects within the framework of the new call for proposals entitled “European University Initiative”, launched by the European Commission with the aim of building the European education area superior.

EUTOPIA 2050 - New teaching practices and internationalisation of courses
By 2025, the EUTOPIA alliance aims to become an open, multicultural and federated university around connected campuses that facilitates both the free movement of all its staff and students, and vigorous participation of all their communities.EUTOPIA will train the European leaders of tomorrow with a global vision of the world and its challenges. Open and committed students on the subjects of diversity and inclusiveness.
EUTOPIA will transform its teaching and learning methods. Trans-institutional teams of staff, students, faculty and experts will form learning communities, co-creating course material and developing learning and teaching methods to provide graduates with high-level competencies, advanced problem-solving skills and an international mindset.
Thus, the alliance launched in September 2020 a call for applications from teachers wishing to offer courses within the framework of the European university project EUTOPIA.
Support a shared science policy capitalizing on synergies and complementarities
The alliance is also based on a pooled cutting-edge research policy in order to capitalize on the expertise and strengths of each institution and to create synergies and complementarities. This research policy is based on strengthened scientific collaborations at the level of research teams but also by joint research development programmes.- EUTOPIA Science and Innovation Fellowship: The EUTOPIA Alliance launched on October 19, 2020 its first call for applications for the academic year 2020-2021. 20 postdoctoral contracts are offered by the 6 universities of the alliance within the framework of this EUTOPIA Science and Innovation Fellowships programme (EUTOPIA-SIF), co-funded by the Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation of the European Union and EUTOPIA partners.
- EUTOPIA phd co-tutelage programme: This programme supports high quality doctoral projects in all research fields and co-led by researchers from EUTOPIA alliance member universities. It offers doctoral scholarships for 3 to 4 years. The aim is to lead to high quality research projects with a global impact, offering exciting research opportunities for doctoral or PhD students. They will take full advantage of the dynamic scientific environment of the EUTOPIA Alliance.
- EUTOPIA Researcher Mobility Programme: This researcher mobility programme supports visits by EUTOPIA Alliance researchers to partner universities. The main objective is to promote research collaborations and to allow the sharing of expertise and infrastructures and the development of joint research activities (for example, joint publications, doctoral co-supervision, joint requests for funds external research, etc.). The program is developed as part of the EUTOPIA 2050 Erasmus + project.
